Amy and I went to the Steelers Fan blitz, which is a thing where Steeler fans can go and get autographs from current and former players, play some games, tour the stadium, etc. It is to get fans excited for the upcoming season. We were in line to get Brett Kiesel (formally of BYU) and Mike Wagner’s (he played with the Steelers in the seventies) autograph. After Mike Wagner signed our towel Amy was talking about how awesome his Super Bowl ring was and we should get it on video tape. Now for those of you who don’t know every player on the Super Bowl championship team gets a very big ring that is priceless. While I was getting the camera ready Mike Wagner takes off his ring from winning Super Bowl XIII (13) and HANDS IT TO AMY!!!! There are literally millions of people who would kill for this experience so enjoy the video.
This is the video from our road trip moving from Layton, UT to Pittsburgh, PA. The total time was 4 days, we could only dive 55 MPH for about 2000 miles. Enjoy.
It has definately been a while since we have posted anything and we are sorry about that. We have been a tad busy finishing school saying goodbye to family and friends and driving across the country with all of our belongings.
We really just felt like we should share with everyone how much the Lord has blessed us for the first few months of our marraige. We have seen so many wonderful miracles.
First of all when Burgess decided to move out to Utah so we could be closer and get married. We were worried about work and finding him a place to live. Both things were right there within just a couple of weeks. We were both able to work with fairly decent jobs and earn enough money to take care of our needs, put some money away and start a home with all the essentials. One huge blessing with getting the essentials was when we were moving into our TINY one bedroom apartment that was 450 sqaure feet we were having touble finding a couch that would fit in our living room. We had our dining room table my mom and given us and a computer desk and we really didnt want to put the computer in the bedroom so we could be obedient to the Lords council. So we searched and searched everywhere for a couch that would be small enough to fit in our small space but also that would not cost too much money (we couldn’t really afford anything). Then we came home one day and a very small little couch was sitting over by the dumpster at our apartment complex. We both got out of the car and looked at it and figured it would be a perfect fit. So we picked it up and walked up to our third floor apartment and put a slip cover over it and it really was a perfect fit! I am convinced that that little couch as uncomfortable as it is was a gift straight from Heavenly Father!
There was another time that I let Burgess balance the check book……anyway, there was a huge mess!!!! We were in trouble. There was a payment ready to go through at midnight online and once it did we were going to be in the hole! BIG TIME!!!! When I figured everything out and had done all i could (transfering funds and depositing all the cash I had) I realized that we would be ok. Payday was coming on Friday and it was stake conference the week before so we had written out our tithing checks but we had not seen anyone from the ward to actually pay the tithing so we just decided to hand it in next Sunday. Anyway, the amount of money that we would have been in the HOLE was almost exactly the amount of money that we had to pay in our tithing. MAN O MAN am I grateful for tithing. Payday came and we were ok again and we were able to pay our tithing and a little more generous fast offering that month. I know the Lord was watching over us. (I also don’t let Burgess balance the check book anymore.)
Once we had starting looking for film schools in utah nothing was really feeling right. So we started looking outside of Utah. Temple and Florida State were the two schools to come up. We looked at both progams and Temple seemed the best and felt the best. We had so many concerns about leaving our situation in Utah. We were going to need to find someone to take our lease or have to pay over over $1500 to get out of our lease. We were going to need to find work and we would need insurance. The more research we did we learned that Temple offers insurance to students and their families even with materity (if we were to need that). That was one load taken off. Then we decided to put our apartment online and see if we would get any takers. Only about 2 hours later we got our first offer. We decided that it was something we felt was right and smething we could do so we gave our apartment our notice that we would be leaving and then the clock started ticking. The first offer, fell through. We got another bite, but it didn’t stay long. It came down to only having 2 days left and we found someone else, took him to the office to fill out the paperwork, but then the next day we found out he was declined. We would have to pay the three months rent to get out of our lease. We drove down the next day to write the check that would RUIN us and when we got there the guy in the office said “oh, I found someone who wanted to take your lease they are moving in in about 6 days so you will just have to pay the six days of this last month.” It was $86.03!!!!!!! They was definately doable! Then we had enough money to move out here and still have a tiny bit left over in case of emergencies and to get us by until we found work!
We got in late Saturday night and we were both feeling scared because it hit us that we were actually here and had no paychecks coming. We decided to fast and pray the next day for help to find work and the next day we got two job offers!
The Lord has been watching over our little family EVERY step of the way!!! We know that there is a God in heaven who loves us very much! We know that it is God that has brought us to where we are and has kept us safe in the scary world. We know these little things we have shared are not coincidences or good luck but that God is hearing our prayers and seeing our effeots to keep the commandments and follow after his Son Jesus Christ and he is blessing us accordingly. We have strong testimonies of prayer, fasting and the wonderful scriptures. We are relying on these things to bring us all the way through this life, happily, together.
Today I was thinking about Erik coming home. Just ONE week and he’ll be back! It’s crazy! I can barely believe everything that has happened in the two years he has been gone. I served a mission and got married. Shaun graduated from BYU and Janelle had Preston and he is now 8 MONTHS OLD! Christer and Cat bought a house, a new car AND had beautiful Addison. Mom had her knee replaced. Tay and Dan are huge and have matured quite a bit. I just can’t believe how much has changed in the two years Erik has been gone. He is coming back to a new and improved Edwards family.
It just seems like yesterday that I was getting ready to leave on my mission, or getting ready to graduate from high school, or go to Europe. I can’t believe that I am 23. That is just weird. I can’t believe that I have a husband….that is even weirder. Some days I wish time would fly by and get me to the next stage of life but on days like today I wish that it could just slow down a bit. I’m afraid of missing the little things.
