Best First Year of All Time

Published by under Uncategorized

Ya know…everyone says that the first year is the hardest…..for Burg and I it couldn’t have been better!!!!!

We have loved every second of this first year together.  Yes, things have been challenging and tough at times but we have learned the importance of our companionship and have grown all the more grateful for one another and the promise of an eternal marriage.

As always  my very romantic husband has spoiled me this day.  I had to work, so he woke up early and made me my favorite breakfast since being married (his homemade pancakes – I call them Saturday Morning Pancakes because he usually makes them for me on Saturdays) and served it to me in bed along with a homemade very thoughtful and romantic card.  He sent me off to work, and then had lunch ready for me when I came home.  After work he took me out to a very nice italian restaurant.  Then to my surprise there are different kinds of flowers waiting for me in each room in the house.  Can you ask for a more special and romantic way to celebrate our first year together???  Burgess is SO the best!!!!  I can’t believe I get to be married to him forever.

Here are a few pictures of our first year:

This is Burgess talking now, I would just like to let everyone know that i am married to the most beautiful woman in the world.  Amy has made this past year the best year of my life so far.  She makes it so easy to Love her.  She keeps me on the ground yet it everyday feels like a dream.  I can’t wait for her to be a mother, she will be the best.  This past year was great and i am looking forward to many years in the future.

End of the Year Update

January: 2008 couldn’t have started any better for us – we were on our honeymoon for this first week and then enjoyed the rest of the month working at Blockbuster together, going to school at LDS Business College together, and getting moved into our little 450 square foot apartment.  It was very busy but awesome to get to spend so much time together.

February: We both got callings to serve in our church.  I was asked to be the advisor for the 12-13 year old girls in our ward.  My job was to teach on Sundays and help plan and participate in their activities once a week.  I loved  all the girls and had so much fun with them.  Burgess was asked to teach the 14-15 year old kids Sunday School lessons.  Burgess loves teaching and really enjoyed this calling.  We also welcomed our beautiful niece Addison into the world!

March: We decided to pack up everything we have and move to Pennsylvania for film school.  Burgess applied to Temple University and we started packing.  We moved out of our apartment and in with my mom and dad until the semester was over and then we were off.

April: We welcomed my little brother home from his mission to France.  We had a tiny family reunion and had family pictures taken.  It was a great way to say good-bye.  Burgess and I packed up a big moving truck with our car being towed behind us and set out on a long, long drive across the mid-west.  It was a fun but LONG drive.  We were able to drive through my mission and see some friends and also stop in Nauvoo, IL as well.  We then moved in with Burgess’ parents in Pittsburgh…we thought for the summer before school.

May: We both got jobs and started working hard.  I got a job at another Blockbuster as an Assistant Store Manager (again) and Burgess started work in retail at the.  Burgess and I were able to take a day trip to Kirtland, OH.  We also went on a short camping trip and got to take a tour of the White House with Burgess’ family.  It was a super fun month!

June: I became completely tired of working for Blockbuster video and finally QUIT!!! (only because of the support of my wonderful husband)  I found a new awesome job working for i Mortgage Services.  It’s a mortgage services management company.  I love the job and love everyone I work with.

July: WE  GOT  THE  SURPRISE  OF  A  LIFETIME!

We found out on the 4th of July that I was 3 weeks pregnant!  This changed pretty much everything for us.  At first we were super scared but that didn’t last too long.

August: We decided that since becoming pregnant and having the extra expenses we would not be able to move to Philadelphia for Temple University this year.  Burgess decided to finish his associates degree at CCAC where it would be much cheaper and we would go to Temple next year.  Burgess’ parents were kind enough to let us continue to stay with them rent free so that we could save as much as possible for when the baby comes.

September: I made it through my first trimester and Burgess took me to my first WVU game.  It was really fun! We both felt the baby move for the first time after the game – we should have known then that we would be having a typical Coffield man.

October: What a fun month!  We were able to do the filming for a screenplay we wrote over the summer.  We also found out for sure that we are having a little boy and Burgess turned 24!  We also had to say good-bye to Young Pap-Pap (Burgess’ Dad), he was relocated to China with his job.

November: The start of the holidays….we spent Thanksgiving with Burgess’ family in West Virginia and also had a surprise baby shower while we were there.  I also got to meet Burgess’ Grandpa Joe for the first time.  That was awesome!  Burgess was also able to film a comedic training video for the army national guard, it won an award and Burg was awarded a medal and certificate from the department of homeland security.  AWESOME!

December: The month is not over but the best thing about this month has been how our minds are naturally turned so fully to the Savior.  We love the increased opportunity of celebrating our Faith in the Savior Jesus Christ.  This is such a beautiful time of year!  Isn’t it just perfect how everything often turns white with snow at Christmas time?  If we look closely we can see the miracle of Christ right before our eyes.  As the scripture in Isaiah 1:18 describes, “Though your sins be as scarlet , they shall be white as snow; thought they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.”  Burgess and I have never been more sure that this is true.  The Lord has watched over us so carefully in our first year of marriage.  Though we have made our mistakes he has comforted, protected and cared for our little and now growing family.  We bear testimony of the Savior and hope that this new year brings increase faith in the Lord for our family and yours!

THE NEW YEAR: We are most excited for our little baby boy to join us!    For those of you who are wondering, we are planning on naming him after my Dad and Burgess – his name will be Fredrick Burgess Coffield – we call him Freddy.  We are also looking forward to Burgess finishing his associates, starting film school at Temple University and trips to China to visit Burgess’ family.

We wish you a very happy Christmas from our little family to yours.  We hope that the next year will bring you many more miracles and much joy.

LOVE, Burgess, Amy and Freddy

Steeler Nation

For those of you family members and friends who have experienced our obsession with the Pittsburgh Steelers, or those of you who love sports.  I have posted this video documenting what we call “Steeler Nation.”  This video will both explain our obsession, and show that we are not alone.  We love our literal family but you all must remember all Steeler fans are our family too.  Young Pap Pap emailed me this video and i want to share it with all of you.  Please join us in cheering on the Steelers for the rest of the season and into the playoffs.  GO STEELERS!!!

PS Just to add to the Video, there were at least two “Steeler Bars” in Portland, Oregon

YaY DADDY!

Published by under Uncategorized

Burgess finished and turned in his last paper of the semester yesterday.  He has done very well this semester in school.  It has been a tough few months with being in school full time, working hard 30-50 hours a week, teaching a Sunday school class AND being a very understanding a willing husband to a tired full time working pregnant wife.

Burgess is the best.  He always takes time to do the little things that make a difference to me.  He gets up on the mornings he wouldn’t normally have to to make me breakfast and lunch so I can try to get a little more rest.  He spends time everyday talking and snuggling Freddy.  He makes dinner when I am too tired, he does the laundry so I don’t have to carry it up and down two flights of stairs, fixes whatever breaks in the house AND always has time to tell me how much he loves me and how beautiful I am.

BABE, I AM SO PROUD OF YOU FOR FINISHING UP THIS SEMESTER SO WELL!  I LOVE YOU SO MUCH!  You really are the best.

Christmas Crafts

Published by under Uncategorized

A few weeks ago I attended my first Super Saturday as a “real” women and not just as my moms little “helper”.  It was really fun and I felt so much like a MOM!  It was great!  Here are the things I chose to do.  When I first showed up a lot of the other women were getting done with their projects and I liked their idea’s so much that I didn’t think I would like mine at all (the colors I chose I mean) – but when I got done I ended up LOVING them both.  So what do you think?

I think this Christmas Star stands out beautifully against our white door.  I love it.  If you want to try your own you will need:

A metal star (you can choose either black or brown and whatever size you like)

Scrapbook paper

Mod Podge

Optional:

Distress ink

Ribbon

Instructions:

Sand the star down so the mod podge will adhere

The easiest way to cut your scrap book paper is to measure each side of one “starburst” (what do you call one of the 5 pieces of a star????) and then using cardboard you have your stencil.  Remember to mark each one of the stencils A and B – you will need 5 A’s and 5 B’s.

Once you have picked your paper patterns and cut out your paper, then just mod podge them on in the design/pattern that suites you.  *If you want to distress the edges of the paper do so before you paste them onto the star.

If your paper comes over the edges just sand it down.  You can finish with some spray glitter if you want and add some ribbon to the top (I didn’t choose to do either option but some of the women did and their stars looked GREAT!)

I really like how these blocks turned out too.  You can put any word/saying that you want on your blocks and you can even do a couple of different words by putting different letters on different sides of the blocks.

These blocks are made pretty much the same as the star.  The only other thing you will need is paint for your blocks.

First you will want to find the right blocks for your project.  Make sure they are sanded and nice (or not if you want the more rustic look).  Paint them whatever color you feel will go the best with your paper picks.  I chose dark brown.  Then cut your paper a little smaller than the top of your blocks (to your own taste).  I then distressed the sides of the paper and LOVE how it turned out.  I used the walnut stain.  MOD PODGE THEM ON BABY!  Once they dry you paint and distress your letters and Mod Podge those on too.

*It takes some planning because you have to think about if you want all the sides of your blocks to be the same or just mix and match them and if your going to do more than one word on your blocks you’ll want to make sure you like the paper combinations of your word – so think about that before taking this project on.

Anyways, this was a super fun project and I felt like a SUPER mom making them.  Oh how I love Relief Society!

Please check out my cousin Sally’s blog at sallyrollins.blogspot.com!!! She is conducting a silent auction for a family of 7 children who just lost their Father to cancer.  At this time the family is left with a great financial burden and my cousin has done so much to help raise money for them to get by.  ALL the proceeds from this auction will go directly to the family.  This is the time of year to reach deep in our pockets and give to others – so please go to the website and BID BIG!  I have my eye on a couple of things but in this case I won’t feel bad if you out bid me, it’s for a great cause! The bidding ends Friday at midnight central time.

Thanksgiving

Published by under Uncategorized

Well we are a little late but HAPPY THANKSGIVING!  We had a very nice Thanksgiving with Burgess’ family in Charleston WV.  The highlights were definitely getting to meet Burgess’ grandpa Joe and cousin Paul for the first time and a surprise baby shower!  It was so fun!  We got to come up with some nicknames for Fredrick Burgess (the winners were Furg and Burf) and we got some really great gifts!  THANKS FAMILY!!!

It was so nice to be able to relax and hang out at his aunt and uncles beautiful and cozy home.  We drove down after work the night before and drove back up for work the morning after.  The best part was getting to spend the whole day together, eating and playing games and snuggling :)  Friday night after work we were able to go on a date to see the movie AUSTRALIA (SO GOOD!).  Then we got almost all of our christmas shopping done and Saturday.  It was just a great weekend.  Loved every minute of it.  Now I just can’t believe that it is December!

Things we are looking forward to this month is of course going home to Utah for Christmas (SO EXCITED TO SEE MY DOG and my family).  We are very excited to be so close to a few temples and hope to spend a lot of time in the temple while we are visiting in Utah.  We are looking forward to making it to 30 weeks pregnant by the end of the month!

Things we are most grateful for:

The past (almost) year of marriage.

Fredrick Burgess on the way.

Very supportive and wonderful families.

WORK! (with benefits)

Our callings as Gospel Principle teachers (WE LOVE OUR CLASS!)

Our testimonies and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and the knowledge of his commandments.

There are so many things we are so extremely grateful for, we have been so immensely blessed this past year it is overwhelming at times.  We know that everything we have is because of the great gift the Savior offered us when He offered Himself as a sacrifice.  We know that He is real and His gospel is true.  This is the best season because we get to remember and realize the gift the Father offered when He sent His Son.  Merry Christmas everyone and may you enjoy every minute of this wonderful time of year!

p.s. hoping to have some pictures posted on here soon.
