It all hit us around 12:15 am the morning of March 7th, 2009. A date that is now set apart from the rest. Amy was having contractions all day, but neither of us thought too much of it, we thought we would go to sleep and maybe have to go to the hospital the next day or a couple days, we did not feel the urgency. At 11:30 pm we went to bed, still timing contractions, at midnight we prayed, read, and shut the light off to get some sleep. 12:15 Amy asks me to help her go to the bathroom, as soon as her feet hit the floor, “MY WATER BROKE!!! YEP DEFINITELY WATER BREAKING! WATER BREAKING!!!”

Freddy was obedient to his father, I asked him to come in the middle of the night so we could avoid all traffic. I only ran one red light, and we arrived in our room at 12:45. Amy was in some good pain (as you mothers out there know) and was telling me this was our only child. We had the best nurse ever, and she informed Amy that she would receive her epidural as soon as possible. Nanna(my mom) and Auntie Asher soon arrived, the IV was put in and a bag of fluid in. In the meantime I was with Amy watching contractions, she was breathing, doing a great job even though in considerable pain. It came time for the epidural, so Nanna, Auntie and I were asked to wait in the waiting room for half an hour. Once that half an hour was over, we went in to see Amy was in the best mood she’s been in for about 9 months. She even told me we could have more children.

I was able to give Amy a blessing when I went back into the room. Amy was about 3 cm dilated when we arrived, after the epidural they shut off the lights so we could rest, this was about 2:30 am. Freddy wanted to come fast apparently because when she was checked again at 4:30 she was seven cm and 5:30 she was fully dilated. Then Amy started pushing, the first time I was able to glimpse my first born child, just the top of the head. The doctor and nurse told her she was the perfect pusher, 5 pushes the doctor was ready to started helping him out. A push or two, His whole head was out! Another push his shoulder, then my baby was out! Not even the gunk could disguise the most beautiful baby in the world. I cut the cord, then it was over to the scale.

Fredrick Burgess Coffield, born at 6:17 am, 7th of March the year of our Lord 2009. He was 7 pounds 1 ounce, 20 1/2 inches long. The next two nights consisted of diaper changes, rocking, feeding, learning, and very little sleep. Kerstin, or Auntie Keri (pronounced Sheri) joined us the night he was born. I Love my Son. I can watch him all night. He truly is the most beautiful baby in the world. I was thinking while I was rocking him last night, it was 3 am, his mommy was sleeping, and I’ll be honest I wanted to sleep. But he was fussy, so I picked him up, looked into his eyes and thought that I would do anything for him if it made him happy. I gained more respect and love for my parents, because I know they did the same for me. Mostly I gained so much love for my Father in Heaven. I thought about the times that I might have been “fussy” to Him, and I might have sounded annoying but He will always take the time to comfort me.

We are so blessed, this experience couldn’t have been better. It went fast, it was..relatively..easy. I can’t say enough about the staff at Mercy Hospital in Downtown Pittsburgh. They treated us like royalty, gave us everything we needed, they took the time to teach us about everything. We were really blessed beyond what I imagined. He is truly our little miracle. Some people need proof that God exists, look into the eyes of a new born. I know God is there, His glow is still in my baby’s eyes. I love my Son.
